CRUSH-O-GRAMS

For Valentine's Day the Pennyroyal resident assistants created a fundraiser to not only celebrate the day of love but to create awarness about the current crisis in Darfur,Sudan. Crush-O-Grams was the title which by the name, shows that we decided to use crush sodapop for our fundraiser. We had 4 different categories which were ( Love, Crush, Friendship and Secret Admirer) The Strawberry Flavored crush represented love, the Orange (traditional) Flavored crush represented crush, the Grape flavored crush represented friendship and the Secret Admirer was a mix of each 3 flavors. The fundraiser turned out to be a huge success, with only three days we were able to raise over $200.00. All the proceeds will go towards aiding the current humanitarian efforts in the Darfur region, we will be donating our earnings to the Red Cross who is currently in Darfur in order to provide the refugees with any resources they may need. I encourage all campuses to work towards creating awarness about the current conflicts in the African region, it is up to us to speak for them. This fundraiser was also apart of the speaker series event on campus, Simon Deng was scheduled to speak. Simon Deng who was a refugee from Sudan and a survivor of child slavery. A native of the Shiluk Kingdom in southern Sudan, Deng spent several years as a domestic slave in northern Sudan. The main purpose for this fundraiser/event was to create as much attention and awarness towards the Darfur region in order to get students active in standing for this cause and making concious efforts to spread the word in order to create change.
