Back on TRAC

With the New Year always comes a renewed commitment to fitness. At the TRAC, we are currently seeing the most usage since the first week we opened which is exciting news. I encourage everyone to come over and utilize this spectacular new facility, as there is truly something for everyone. Even if your available time is brief, working out is good for the health and it promotes alertness and awareness helping you function better the rest of the day.

As many of you have noticed, the fitness classes are free this semester. If money was what was stopping you from Burning it Up, Attacking your Six Pack, or going Core Crazy, the barriers have been removed. These classes are a great way for those who want to work out, but don't really know what to do to exercise in a structured environment designed to achieve optimal results. No matter what your fitness goal, we offer a class that will help you reach those goals.

Also new this semester at the TRAC is the offering of personal training. Although this is not free, the price of our offerings is significantly less than what you would pay for the same services at other fitness facilities. Whether you want a complete workout regimen, or just want a better idea of how to meet your nutritional needs, there is a personal training package for you.

Look for intramural sports to kick off in the next couple weeks. Don't be surprised to see some new offerings this semester that have never been seen at UIS in the past. Be sure to check out the new Rec Sports website that just launched Monday. It is constantly being updated and is a great resource to find answers to many of your questions such as facility hours, fitness class times, and personal training packages. Have a great semester and let's keep that participation high!

Back to School

In high school, break seemed to fly by. It seemed as though you opened presents one day and opened the books again the next. Then when you get to college the break never ends. Off for at least a month, by the last week or so, you are begging to go back. Your parents have all gone back to work and any younger siblings have likely gone back to school leaving you sitting at home with an awful case of cabin fever as it's too cold to go outside and do basically anything.

But fear not, classes resumed a couple of days ago and there will be plenty of homework to do before you even know what hit you. It is of the utmost importance to get off to a strong start second semester. It's cold out right now which makes for a great opportunity to get a lot of homework accomplished early in the semester and get off to a good start. I speak from experience when I say that when the weather starts to warm up in April and May, you will not want to be stuck in the library writing papers. So get as much done as you can early on, that way when the weather turns nice, you'll be ready to take advantage.
