So I was sittin'

So I was sittin’ in BioChem, all like, man, I just took a test. Im really tired. So I was gonna go to sleep, and be all like, wow, Im not tired anymore. But then these two chicas were like, hey, lets go somewhere. And I was like, Well, I guess that’d be ok, even though Im tired and stuff. So they got me to come with them –

And we went somewhere close to UIS, like it was pretty close to University Hall compared to a lot of things, but it wasn’t really close, like the Kiwanis Stadium or the Satellite office for Housing in Pennyroyal 20; like we could of walked there, but it would have been a long walk, so we drove instead, and it was a pretty short drive.

So then when we got there, we all sat down in this room – it wasn’t a very big room, but I mean it wasn’t very small either – to give you a little bit of an idea, it was bigger than my room, but smaller than where I took my BioChem test. And it was a lot bigger than the car…

But anyway, we were all sittin’ there, and this guy walks in, and everybody starts clappin’ and stuff, and I’m like well I might as well… So I start clappin’, everybody’s havin’ a good time, but then like he like starts talkin’ in front of this non-podium. So, I’m sittin’ there, now I’m gettin’ kind of hungry and stuff too, plus I’m still tired, if you remember from when this story first started…

He talked for a while. I mean, it wasn’t real long, but it was kind of long, like longer than I would talk to somebody, but like less than when Dr. Trammel talked in BioChem on Tuesday, and a whole heck of a lot less than when Dr. Tim Miller talks anytime, but anyway I was gettin’ kind of bored, so I took some pictures of him… I mean, I wasn’t really bored, he was a really nice guy, but like I was kind of gettin’ like “hey, do I need to take notes? Or do you just want me to listen? Because if I don’t need to take notes, I gonna go get a snack, or maybe just some fritos…”

Then out of nowhere he said ‘Any questions?’ or something to that effect, it probably wasn’t that exactly, but I guess everyone assumed that's what he meant, like I could say ‘Any questions?’ and it would drive the same point home. Then he picked on someone he called The Press to ask him a question, but I thought it was kind of weird, because right after that he called on somebody else, but like he had the same name, like he called him The Press too. I guess they were brothers, or cousins, or maybe just distantly related members of a clan descendent from one of the ten cities I found when I MapQuest-ed ‘Press’ in France.

Soon afterwards, everyone got up and clapped again, including me, because it really was good speech, I mean it was more entertaining than a lot of class discussions I’ve had before, but not nearly as educational as when Dr. Tim Miller talks. But anyway, it was about that time that I took a few more pictures of him, and then all of a sudden a bunch more of those French guys surrounded him with all of these lights and poles (I don’t mean Polish people, I mean metal sticks with cushions on the end, like, they’re there in the picture). So I guess he had to answer their questions too; it’s kind of hard to get away from a crowd like that.

So the point of my story is, I eventually got back home and had some lunch, and then I took a nap.

=D

**Oh wait! My bad – that thing he was talking in front of WAS a podium… Sorry I always mix those two up…**

Yeah!!! Go BioChem Study Group!

I love late night study groups. Few things bring me more joy than working on essays, homework, or even studying for tests with a group of people past midnight. Last year I stayed up all night working on my 'How Do You Know?' 1st Linked Essay with a group of people - yeah, you remember who you are. =D

Anyway, last Wednesday night a group of us studied for our first BioChem test together. It was Cra-zay, but as always, the study group rocked my world.

Here's us near the beginning -

That's Josh Frazee in the front, Danielle Fox with the soda in her hand, then to the right are Cat Morrison and TJ Gardner, and then Callie Frazer in the back. Sadly, poor Erin Turner, who was an integral part of our study group, didn't get into a picture... =(

But anyway, the first hour of study groups are usually the most boring... no one is really tired yet, everyone is still "learning..."

So, after the first hour, things start getting good... People are tired, confused and still stuck on the same question no one can answer, and the best part is that anything becomes funny... Even this -

Poor Cat...

Anyway, we finished our study session eventually, and I feel very confident that everyone who was there was well prepared for the test.

Even though they may be half asleep for it. =D

Cya all later

My First Post =D

So this is my first post... Its only been a month, and already so much has happened here at UIS. I dont even know where to start, but I'll try to pick up as much as I can remember. I was here at school for two weeks before classes started for RA training, and those two weeks were agonizingly slow... But the week that everyone moved in was CRAZY. It flew by so fast, I dont remember where one day started and another one picked up, inbetween the 4 or 5 hour naps I managed to get =D
But it was a blast. The freshman who moved in are so awesome; all of them are super involved and love to come out and enjoy themselves.

Well, first week was great and all, but I was kind of relieved when classes finnally began - it would give me an excuse to just sit in a classroom and relax. Speaking of classes, I really enjoy my new classes so far. "What is good?", the third semester of the Capital Scholars humaities curriculum, is going to be great. The books we are reading have been challenging for me, and I know that I'm going to walk out of this class with a better understanding of my beliefs and why I believe them. Oral Communications, or Oral Comm, is going to be ok. The professors are really energetic and seem ready to help us develop our speaking skills, but honestly, how spectacular can any speech class be? Biology and Chemistry of the Environment, or BioChem, is . . . well . . . boring. Seriously; I love the professors, the are awesome guys and they care about us, but I am tired of science. But, regardless, I love my Spanish class. Im in my final semester of Spanish that I need to be done with my foreign language requirement, and it is hard. When I say hard, I don't mean impossible, but difficult. Its going to take a lot of concentration and effort to get a good grade in that course, but Im excited about it. Since coming to college, I've definetly learned more spanish in two semesters than in my four years of high school (I took it each year). I really hope to be fluent by the time I leave school, and I think thats possible - If I stay focused.

Beyond classes and people, UIS and Springfield are still as awesome as they were last year. Having all my friends back in the dorm is great, especially when we do stupid crap like jump thru running fire hydrants, or go to town and buy a pizza oven on a Friday night at 3 am, just because we want a pizza. I have lots of other stories too, and I'd love to tell them to you - email me or msg me and I'll fill you in =D

Well, thats it for now. Im sure I'll post more later, but until next time - Enjoy!

John
