Online Student Goes to Campus

Every notice that on the homepage of UIS there are new pictures of the campus? Well up until last week that is how i pieced campus together, that was until i visited the WONDERFUL UIS in person. I was in Chicago visiting family and decided that while i was in the sate i would make the trek down to UIS.
The pictures on the website do not to the campus justice. I was amazed and impressed by the campus, the building were beautiful, clean, and new. I jumped around campus meeting and greeting some of the online staff that i have meet over the course of time i have been an online student. Everyone was so nice and welcoming, i really enjoyed myself.

3 continents in 4 moths while taking summer classes!

It has been a pretty crazy summer. From Angkor Wat to Lake Genevia all while taking summer classes. Being able to pick up and go (with your laptop) could be one of the coolest things about Online Classes. How else would someone be able to earn credits while sightseeing in Hong Kong?
I hope that everyone has had a great summer! I am sorry that i have not blogged so much, but in between traveling and school work there has been no time to sleep! The new school year is coming and that means new classes. I am looking to see if anyone can recommend a fun class that they have taken online? Any idea's?

So is everyone ready for the summer? Does anyone have any good suggestions for summer course? Like i said i am taking a course that lets me watch TV!!!
Also....wanted to let you online students know that Career Services caters to you as well. I shot them an email this morning just wondering if they could offer me any advice and it turns that they are going to work with me. They can do it over email, phone or Elluimnate. Good Afternoon Guys!
How is the registration going? I picked up a class that looks really interesting, it called: Media from a Liberal Arts Perspective. Has anyone taken this course yet? It looks pretty cool, any class that has me watching T.V. is a good class! I am also signed up for the Lab version of Plants and Society. Looking for suggestions for classes? Well let me offer my opinion.
1. The Internet and American Life- this was the first credited class i took here at UIS and i really loved it! It is alot of fun. Great first class.
2. The Chinese Century- I knew NOTHING about China before taking this class. It was a changeling course but you learn alot. Because of that course i decided to study abroad in South East Asia for the month of May.
3. Introduction to HTML- Coming into this class i was lost. I had always seen the source page (right click mouse and click view source code) however it was a totally foreign language for me. I took the class and had a great time and learned that it is not that hard. The course has you make your own website which was alot of fun.
4. Family Life and Public Policy- I am in this class now and i really like it. You spend alot of time talking about issues that effect home life and also society. I would also recommend this course.
Sorry i wrote so much! I hope this helps you guys pick your classes. I also took more classes that i loved but i didn't want to overwhelm you on the blog. If you want suggestions just email me: cjoyc2@uis.edu. Again, if you are having any problems or just looking to talk to someone from the online world send me an email i would love to hear from you.
Enjoy,
Colleen

Newest Blogger!

Hi! My name is Colleen Joyce. I’ve got a tough commute to UIS, exactly 96 feet from my bedroom to my computer room! As you might have guessed I am an online student here at UIS. I am a Jersey girl whose fingers found the way to UIS. I take all my classes online and have been for the past four years. I will be graduating in December with a degree in Liberal Arts. Besides spending my days trolling the Internet for school, I enjoy traveling. Some might say that I have a bad case of the travel bug. In May I will be traveling to South East Asia for a business study abroad trip!

Come back soon!
