UIS - The Real Deal

Friday, October 19, 2007

So today I am working on a paper for biology seminar. I have to write a 12-15 page paper by next Thursday. Yes, it could be worse, but still I am whining.

Anyway I was just taking break # 5,421 when I found this quiz on a friend's facebook page and found it interesting. And rather than be researching the effect of chemical dependency on the brain (yup, I picked a boring subject too), I wanted to figure out what kind of college fits me best.

Looks like UIS was a good choice, since I wasn't cut out for a private college! :)

What Should You Have Done After High School?

You should have gone to a state school. You're a realist. You're not expecting a lifetime in academia, you just want to compete for a decent job and your piece of the pie. Besides, you know that a state school will prepare you to survive in the real world. When you graduate, you won't need someone holding your hand as you cross the street into the working world.

Assassins & Drunk Drivers on campus

There is currently a game of assassins going on at UIS. It's crazy to see how some kids are extremely paranoid about the game!! :) I ate lunch the other day with Justin Bournes. He was telling me stories about sneaking around campus, using decoys, and a bunch of other strategies to staying in the game as long as possible. At lunch with us was the reigning champion from last year, Katie. We had a lot of fun just talking about different ideas we had to keep everyone in the game as long as possible. This year the game started at 12:01 am and I guess someone was already out by 12:02, which is sad to say the least. I guess last year Justin was one of the first people to get out last year which is why he is so determined to win this year. Then I was able to help him stay in on Tuesday afternoon. He had to run back to his room to get a notebook but was worried his assassin would get out of class and find him. So I went with him as a decoy & protection from whoever was after him! It sounds like a great way to promote alliances and build friendships while having fun and sneaking around at the same time! :)

Also on campus yesterday was the Illinois Department of Transportation. They were raising awareness about drunk driving. I got to drive a golf cart around the quad with drunk goggles on. It was not very much fun and I got really dizzy!! I only hit 2 "kids" though...they called the cones kids to make you feel worse about hitting things while drunk! But it was hilarious to see people trying to walk on a straight line while wearing the drunk goggles! :)

Other than that, everything's been going well. Classes are tough and midterms suck, but such is life! Last weekend I went to go see a movie with some kids from UIS-Across the Universe. It was absolutely insane!! I recommend everyone to go see it. It took about 3 weeks to get it to Springfield so it's already in the 5 buck club movies at the theater. And it's entirely Beatles' music. This weekend I'm heading to Indianapolis to spend time with my sisters, so I'll let ya know how that goes later! :)
